it's a thief in the night to come and grab you, it can creep up inside you it can consume you The pub was half filled tonight, it being a Thursday night and all. Not many people came out on a Thursday night. For it being in the middle of the week and with Friday being the last day of school and all the people who worked in offices and such. Thursday nights weren’t filled with over active teenagers and drunken ones too. It wasn’t filled with teenagers with an overdrive in their hormonal system, and it definitely wasn’t filled with people that needed a day to relax and chill with a glass of drink. Friday nights were much better to have parties and to just chill with your mates. Friday nights were the nights for parties, Kristopher could remember that. When he was in his boarding school, Friday nights were spent in the common room, the music was up loud and alcohol would be spread all over the place. In the boarding school that he was at, the majority of the boys were either homosexual or bisexual; it was a good thing, since it made the parties much fun. The first few parties that he had been to were awkward since he always thought he was straight, but when he finally got together with a boy the first time; he was happy. Parties were bigger, and better and much more exciting than usual. Sure he still missed the feeling of a girl next to him, but at least with boys he didn’t have to be gentle and could be as rough as he wanted to be. Boys were definitely much better to be with but he still had a soft spot for girls.
A few days ago, Kristopher had entered Empress drunk and had left a mark on some peoples’ memories; it was fun to do that, especially because people tended to love Kristopher when he was drunk. He was a fun drunk, someone who tended to show his fun loving side much more when he was drunk, although he did just that when he was sober too, but for some reason a drunken Kristopher was much better. When he became sober in Empress he had gone on another scouring hunt for some more alcohol, and luckily he had found this pub. Even though Empress was a really empty city, with practically nothing to do there were too many fields in between everything, making it hard for him to find a house with alcohol in it. He stole some along the way from the people that lived in Empress, but that didn’t fill his thirst. He needed more; Kristopher needed to get drunk again. He was much better when he was drunk. It took him a few days before he even found the pub, sue him he was new to this place, and when he found the pub finally (it was practically a few miles from where he was), Kristopher shouted out with glee. At least Empress had something fun in it, there wasn’t even anything fun to do in Empress, but he had been called to Empress because of the Shinigami. For some reason, all the ghosts had to end up Empress, Kristopher had no idea why, but he didn’t bother to question anything. In fact he wanted to come see Empress and venture out on his own instead of staying in his home town. But if he knew how boring Empress was, Kristopher would have probably stayed in his hometown.
Kristopher opened the door of the old pub that was in the corner of the city. The creaking of the door alerted many of the living people in the pub, but the spirits that were already there took one glance at him and then carried on with what they were doing. The eyes of the living people were still on him even though they couldn’t see him. It was funny to see their bemused expressions and Kristopher chuckled at them. He entered the pub and strolled along the tables for a few seconds playing about with the living people. There was a young man in the corner of the pub, he seemed quite cocky and was talking loudly on the phone, and Kristopher went up to him, mimicked him for a few seconds and then poured the guys drink down him. The look on that guys face! Kristopher burst out laughing and went to the ghost part of the pub. The ghost part that actually sold alcohol. “A gin and tonic please darling…” Kristopher winked at the girl and gave her a cheesy smile, a lot of spirits nowadays needed some smiling in their lives; they were all too dull, thank god Kristopher had been put in this life to lighten things up.

so there's nothing left to say WELL FOR A LONELY SOUL YOU'RE HAVING SUCH A NICE TIME Magda pushed open the pub door with a slightly smiling face. It was Thursday and that meant no hardcore partying, which was good because she was tired and in more of a mood to laze out than party the night away. Besides she'd been out on the weekend and so the next dancing session would most definetly be rather later than sooner. Magda wasn't always at party central. Sure, she was twenty-one (or rather twenty-four) but not every young 'un raved at the disco night after night. She busied herself with other things. Magda had better things to do than get drunk night after night, not to say that she didn't like the odd shot or two, but she kept things pretty quiet. It was just the way she was. But tonight was Thursday and it would be quiet, just like she liked it. She'd finished a new piece of loveliness, a pastel-coloured, flowing dress and hadn't had any muse for starting any other pieces (although she'd drawn some sketches for the accompanying jewellery) and so the pub it was. She could do with some people-watching and some friendly, or not-too-friendly faces. She'd been working on the dress for three days straight, only taking a break to take the next coffee out of the fridge. She felt a slight pull back to reality. And the smell of coffee in her apartment had been making her feel slightly sick. She'd left all the windows open.
The Shinigami had graced her with her own pad, a little place tucked away in the old style part of the city. The roads were narrow and winding, the apartments looked like they'd been shifted from Paris, all light and airy with beautifully old shutters. Magda had counted her blessings and she fully appreciated what she'd got. She had a tiny hallway which had tall doors leading to a slightly bigger kitchen, a sitting room with a balcony, through which the bedroom could be found. She didn't have a dishwasher, nor a washing machine. She could've stolen one, like all the rest of them did but Magda had slight quails about stealing stuff, even though the essentials she had to steal. She told herself that she didn't need a dishwasher, she had a sink. She didn't need a washing machine, she made trips to the laundrette across the road. She stole the supplies for her designing but she felt she could be forgiven for that.
As the door slammed closed behind her, the living and dead occupants of the pub started. She ignored them (the dead, that was, it was hard to ignore the living who couldn't see you) and walked towards the part of the bar where a ghost bartender resided, giving the feel that the ghost were almost alive. It was a nice feeling. Being ignored by living people day in and day out wasn't exactly morale boosting. Not that Magda ever felt like that anymore, it was a part of life she'd easily got used to. Her eyes lit up a little as she saw a familiar face around the corner, perching on a bar stool. She walked towards Kris and stopped just behind him, placing her hands gently over his eyes. "Hi, sweetheart," she whispered in his ear, tickling him with her soft breath. And he was a sweetheart. There may have been many things that were very different about Kris and Magda but their friendship wasn't about slating each other off. They appreciated each other and everything was beautiful. Kris was such a cheerful soul that it was hard to dislike him at all. Magda was sure that the wild boy didn't have many enemies, he was a compassionate guy and someone who always offered a helping hand, many times which she took.

it's a thief in the night to come and grab you, it can creep up inside you it can consume you
Kristopher loved his drinks; he had been hooked on them since he was probably about fourteen. Yes underage drinking was wrong, but when it came to Kristopher he really didn’t care. Drunks were something that enhanced his characteristics, it made him feel livelier and happier. Even without drinks Kristopher was lively and happy, but the drinks helped him to calm down his nerves; especially when there were any cute girls around. Even though Kristopher seemed cocky and confident, on the inside just like everybody else, he was actually quite self conscious. The drinks put down that self consciousness and helped him be who he was now. But even still, Kristopher was able to put down that self consciousness without the drinks as well; which was surprising for him, but he was learning to live with it. Kristopher didn’t know the many different types of drinks, he wasn’t the type of person to go Google out the different types of alcoholic drinks there were in this world. He would just go with what everyone else went with. He didn’t know all the fancy drinks and went with the simple vodka shots, the different wines, the beers and lagers and the gins and spirits. Those were enough to start a party with him. Kristopher had made many a friends with drinks, when he was drunk as well as when he was sober. Surprisingly he was charming when he was both drunk and sober. It was funny, normally people were all over their ways when they were drunk, but Kris was kind of just the same.
Kristopher had tried to get the Shinigami drunk once but it never worked. He had managed to nearly get his hood off once too, it was funny. Kristopher had kept on giving him drinks, telling the Shinigami that it would be only for a couple of more rounds, and then the hood nearly slipped off. Too bad the Shinigami pulled on it before it could. Lately many people in this life had been wondering as to how the Shinigami looked underneath his hood, but no one had quite managed too. Kristopher had been truly disappointed that night; he had really wanted to see the Shinigami’s face. Rumours were that there was no face under the hood actually, just a disfigured one of that. Apparently it was all burned, the eyes all over the place and there was no mouth. It was as if the Shinigami was the disfigured, scarier version of Voldemort from the Harry Potter series. It was funny to think of him that way, because both actually had very similar characteristics.
Kristopher didn’t turn around to see who was entering the pub now; why should he bother? If they knew him they would come up and talk to him and if they didn’t, well they wouldn’t come up and talk with him then. The bartender handed him his drink with a flirtatious smile on her lips and Kristopher winked at her. It was nice that at least some people in this after life weren’t as morose as others. Some times people here were just too glum, and Kristopher didn’t like being brought down from his heights of happiness; he lived on happiness. Kristopher took a gulp of his drink happily, loving the rush of the alcoholic drink going down his throat. He sighed contently and looked at the bartender with an amused look in his eyes; maybe he could do something with her tonight? He felt a presence behind him but he didn’t bother to look around. Suddenly there were a pair of thin, slender hands covering his eyes, and he heard a sweet, familiar voice of a woman. Kristopher smiled to himself as he realised who it was. Her breath tickled him and Kristopher wanted to burst out laughing but he stopped himself. “Hey sweetheart. You wanna go get a room together and we can shimmy down with the night?” Kristopher smirked widely, knowing the kind of response he would get from Magdalena.

so there's nothing left to say WELL FOR A LONELY SOUL YOU'RE HAVING SUCH A NICE TIME Madgalena rolled her eyes and subtlely ruffled his dark hair with a gentle hand. "Yeah, I'm the only girl that gives you a negative response to that question," she said, taking a seat on the bar stool next to him as his smirk widened. "Deal with it, baby. No shimming down." She caught the bartender's eye and ordered a vodka shot. She didn't care for soft drinks when a hard day's work was over and she'd gone off wine ever since it had killed her so she was left with her vodka, so typically Polish. She shrugged, supposing it was in her blood. She wouldn't drink it with any chasers either. It was straight or nothing. For this she got some respect whilst not really meaning to. Hey, it wasn't her fault she could hold her alcohol so well! Well Kris was always too drunk to care by that time and probably didn't even notice she wasn't falling about half as much as he was. Silly Kris. He was her little gem.
As her drink arrived, Magda held it up in the gesture of a quick toast then downed the bugger, replacing the glass on the table quite unlike people downing vodka shots usually did. The girl had grace, that at least was evident. She turned to her companion. "Good day, or just average day?" She asked conversationally. In their relationship, Kris was more of the talker whilst Mags did the listening job pretty well. And her dear friend's life was always so full of shenanigans that it was a wonder that she could even get a word on edgeways most days. She wondered what he'd been up to today. Funny if he actually just woke up and trundled along here, she thought amusedly. But even with a morning fast asleep Kris would be able to make it most worthy of recounting and twist it so that the unexplainable happened. He had a knack for prattling on, hmm maybe prattling wasn't the right word to use.. babbling? No. She meant it in a positive light, like... storytelling? He could just go on and on and was really useful to have around if there was any awkwardness about. Kris was a complete dispeller of awkwardness, the little genius.
The blonde waved the bartender over and asked for two more shots of the same. "Want one?" She asked Kris, eyeing his gin and tonic. It didn't look very appetising to her. Ah well, each to their own. She smiled at him benignly as her drinks arrived. He was wearing his usual bright threads, matching his personality perfectly. And his face was a warm vision of contentment and happiness. It was not that common to come across someone as upbeat and happy as Kris in this world. There were many ghosts that went mad, their unjust deaths eating away at them, not able to deal with the afterlife, killing themselves and others time after time. Of course these were the extreme cases but they did exist. Most ghosts continued their existence but were sullen, tempered things. Magda didn't belong to these either. She was dead and that was it. She was stuck in this afterlife, this purgatory, whether she liked it or not. She left it at that, not feeling sorry for herself, not constantly complainng of the unfairness of this life. It wasn't her place, she was sure she was here for a reason. Everything and everyone had a purpose and that's what she believed. But she was glad that she had met Kris here, he made the afterlife a lot more bearable.

it's a thief in the night to come and grab you, it can creep up inside you it can consume you
Kristopher smirked as he heard Magdalena’s reply, she would always be the girl to reject him and he always took it as humour. One day he was sure he would manage to have sex with Magdalena, but damn was she one tough cookie to crack. He pulled a face and mimicked her as she told him that she’d be the only girl that would give him a negative response. Yes she was right, normally a lot of girls would have liked to ‘shimmy down’ with him in the night, they knew how much Kristopher liked to party. He pouted and said in a bambi like voice (it’s like bambi eyes, a cute voice really) and said, “No shimming down? Really? You mean bugger! We could have been done in an hour or so and back to the drinks quickly, you just don’t like seeing me happy do ya?” Kristopher pouted at Magdalena again and took another gulp of his drink. He loved playing along with Magdalena, she was so innocent but yet so naughty too.
He liked the way Magdalena was able to handle her drinks, even though he couldn’t. But what the heck, he was a young guy; he definitely would not be able to handle his drinks, especially because of the quantity of drinks he took down nearly every night. He nodded at Magdalena and raised his glass a little and then took another sip of his drink as Magdalena did the same. Kristopher smiled at Magdalena’s question and perched himself comfortably on the stool he was sitting at to begin his story of the day. “Well, well…I’d call it a good day as well as an average day. I met this fantastic girl right? Did all the usual charm and what not and by the end of an hour I had her eating out of my palm, but it turns out it was the other way. Turns out she had a boyfriend. So then he came chasing after me right? Big old guy, very hunch but not good looking like me. Obviously no one is as good looking as me. So I dodged him right, and the funny thing was the guy was drunk so while he was spinning looking for me, I pulled his trousers down. Turns out the guy don’t own a pair of briefs OR boxers.” Kristopher began to laugh as he remembered the image in his head, the guy was really shocked and his girlfriend then walked away, pretending that she didn’t know him. Now that had made Kristopher laugh even harder. He liked how Magdalena listened to him, some people always shouted at him for taking so much, but Magdalena didn’t mind.
Kristopher took another gulp of his drink, draining the last part down with a content sigh and placed the little cup back onto the bar. He winked at the bartender as Magdalena asked him if he wanted another drink. “Sure I do. When have I ever refused?” Kristopher smiled at Magdalena, as their drinks arrived and gave the bartender another flirtatious smile. He knew he could have her by the end of the night if he kept playing his cards right, but he knew he wouldn’t even be sober by then too. Ah well, Kristopher liked being drunk. He looked at Magdalena once, took the whole shot down and shook his head as he started to feel livelier and took off his vibrant hoodies. He propped it on his stool and then smiled widely at Magdalena and said, “How about you? How is this life treating you bay-beh?” He tired a fake impersonation of Elvis and winked lazily at her, his face in a serious mood.

so there's nothing left to say WELL FOR A LONELY SOUL YOU'RE HAVING SUCH A NICE TIME Magda raised her eyebrows at her friend with a playful smirk. "Oh I wouldn't want to be done in an hour, my man. If you're giving me some loving I want it all night long," she teased, giving his shoulder a squeeze. "And of course I like seeing you happy." She watched him take another gulp of his gin and tonic and laughed. Hah, it wasn't like he wouldn't be getting some 'loving' elsewhere. She'd vaguely noticed the eyes he kept making at the bar girl. She had a feeling he was looking to get into her pants by the end of the night. It was quite a strong feeling. "But I think you have your eye on someone else tonight. Am I right?" She glanced to the bar girl and back at Kris with a half-smile. She knew she was right but it didn't hurt to get some confirmation. It was funny having someone like Kris around. She never knew whether she should warn the girls he was hitting on that he was a one night stand kind of guy, just in it for the fun and for the sex or whether she should sit back and watch things unfold. She always happened to employ the latter, simply because it was in her nature to stay out of business that wasn't her own and leave it to the people involved. Maybe if any of his conquests had asked her what he was like outright, she may have given a hint as to what kind of relationship Kris usually ended up having, but she'd never give them a clear account. She was his friend, however flamboyant and immoral he sometimes was with his girls and she tried not to say a word against him.
As Kris shifted to recount his day, Magda shifted too so that they were facing each other and not the bar. She cradled her shot glass in pale hands as he told her what had happened with the girl and her drunk boyfriend. She gave a light chuckle as he claimed noone else was as good looking as him. He was good looking, that was true, and she knew his arrogance was light and baggage-free, he joked about it and wasn't typically offended if anyone disagreed. His face was slightly too feminine, along with his style, for him to be to Magda's taste, but of course she didn't choose her friends according to what they wore or what they looked like. It was with boyfriends that those issues were more important. As Kris began to laugh himself when he finished his story, Magda joined in, shaking her head, feeling a little sorry for the boyfriend but glad that Kris had been able to turn the situation from potentially dangerous into a joke. "I really don't know how you manage to have such weird adventures every day, Kris," she told him, smiling as she accepted the next two shots from the bar girl and slid one towards Kris's outstretched palm.
Yes, she couldn't think of one time when he'd refused a drink. Even when he was stone drunk and almost passed out on the floor she remembered someone offering him a shot of whisky and he'd taken it. It was actually lucky that the alcohol wouldn't affect him as it had done in his life. The afterlife had a thing about quesnching the effects of everything. Everything was diluted, things took a long tme to take effect. So it was that everything seemed to go by even slower than it actually did. Magda didn't mind, if she had to deal with it she would. She smiled as she saw the exchange between her friend and the girl who'd brought them their shots. Yes, she was definetly returning his advances and Mags was pretty sure that someone was getting laid tonight. She nudged his elbow gently and smirked. "You don't ever trouble yourself with being subtle, do you?" She couldn't help but laugh at his Elvis impression. It was good, even though he was starting to get drunk. Well Elvis sounded pretty much like he was drunk and drugged up twenty-four-seven anyway so the vodka shot had only helped him out. She replied to his question with a small smile. "Just fine, perfectly fine." She wasn't going to bore him by recounting her day, which really didn't consist of much anyway. She'd woken up early to have plenty of time to finish the dress and having done so she'd popped out and made her way to the pub and was sitting right there with him. Yeah, certainly not as interesting as his own day but she'd liked hers all the same. They were from two different worlds even though it was the same city. But somehow, something had brought them together.

it's a thief in the night to come and grab you, it can creep up inside you it can consume you Kris laughed as Magdalena raised her eyebrows at him, she always did that when she disapproved or something, but it looked funny when she was trying to make it look like a little joke as well. Magdalena wasn’t that good at jokes. “All night hey? Well why didn’t you say so? I’m up for it if you are baby.” Kris raised his eyes and lowered them with a suggestive smirk on his face as Magdalena squeezed on his shoulder. “Whoa whoa! Wait a minute honey; if you’re getting horny lets take it upstairs babe, not down here in front of people!” Kristopher smiled at Magdalena, amusement stuck onto his face. It was fun to joke around with Magdalena, especially because she wasn’t the type of girl to slap him when he made sexual innuendos or out there comments. “Mmm, yes you should like seeing me happy. Because a happy Kris means so many happy girls in this world, and the odd occasional boy.” Kristopher winked at Magdalena as the bartender passed by him again. Damn he wanted that girl. He was only in for one night stands, commitments just scared every kind of boy. Commitments were hard and what was the point of getting into a relationship if your eye roved around on another girl. So he would rather be known as the player in this world rather than a cheater; that was one thing Kris never did, he never cheated. Seriously what did you get when you cheated? You’d lose both of the people you were with and you’d probably get your windscreen cracked, eggs thrown at you or naked pictures would surface on the internet. (All of which has happened to Kristopher, but he took it all in light humour). When Kristopher was with a girl, even if it was for one night, he would treat that girl like a princess, and that was why girls’ always came back for more.
Kris loved to tell people about his day, it was funny and it was definitely an icebreaker. Normally people would cower away from Kristopher’s sparkling personality, but when he began to tell stories and had got them to lighten up; they would immediately be drawn to him. He was a fascinating person, always reeling people in with his stories and fun attitude and that was what people seemed to like about him the most. Kristopher smiled as Magdalena laughed; yes he knew he was good looking. He wasn’t those arrogant types of people though, vain yes, but that was for the fun of it. Humouring yourself about the way you look made you feel confident, well it made Kristopher feel confident. Other people with low self esteem probably wouldn’t try that at all. Kristopher always managed to turn a scary situation into one filled with jokes and laughter. It was just the way he was, scary situations for him were not good, he would panic a lot and scream like a mad woman making sure all eyes were on him. He was an over reactive person, but it was all fun and laughs. “It’s because I make these weird adventures happen. I go in there and feed myself to the sharks, its fun Magsy. You should try it.” He half laughed as she pushed his drink along the bar into his hand.
Kristopher could never refuse a drink; it was how he was made perhaps. Drinks were like an addiction for him, he was definitely an alcoholic, but he wasn’t the type to need therapy, he could be sober when you wanted him to be and he could be drunk when he wanted to be. Right now he could stay sober if he wanted to be, but he wanted to feel hammered again. He wanted to drink away stuff; just random stuff. He wanted them to filter out of his head. He was glad that being an alcoholic in this life didn’t mean that you would die soon by getting diseases and such. If this was the real life, then Kristopher would have probably been dead by now if he hadn’t overdosed as well before. He knew the girl wanted him as much as he wanted her, she was showing it by her body movements and her flirty glances. Kristopher licked his lower lip seductively at her and she blushed. He chuckled at Magdalena’ comment and said; “Why should I be subtle? Girls feel sexier when a man shows them openly how bad he wants them and that’s a true fact my dear friend.” Kristopher smiled at Magdalena; it was true what he had just said. Girls felt as if men wanted them more when they showed it to them and when they were shown that, girls felt sexy. They felt as if they were good looking and beautiful and what not, and Kristopher liked making them feel that way. “Ohhhhh that’s good. Good.” Sometimes, Kristopher really wished that Magdalena would have a story to tell him, she was kind of a stick in the mud at times and he didn’t like it. It just made everything so boring, but she was his friend after all so he couldn’t really say that to her.
